Community Preservation Program – Possible Funding Votes on March 20th

Newton’s CPC will meet on March 20th at 7:00 pm in City Hall Room 209. This agenda includes possible funding votes on two current proposals: Farlow Park Pond & Bridge (Newton Corner), CPA request $476,780; and Newton Highlands Playground, revised CPA request $200,000 (anticipated future construction request $2,147,400).

April Vacation with NCE

Newton Community Education offers the following vacation-week programs for kids this April: Babysitting and CPR training classes for kids ages 11 and up, and Science Gadgets and Contraptions, for kids in grades 1-4.

Newton Youth Players Theater program

If your child would like to be a part of an outstanding after-school youth theatre program, then Newton Youth Players could be the answer to their performing dreams! This program, that famously fills up one year in advance, has a few spaces available for ‘Oliver!’ and ‘Annie’, and the enrollment will start soon for next year. The casts are small, which gives every child an opportunity to feel they are an important part of the show. They sing, dance, make their own scenery, and wow their adoring public every time! The Pirates of Penzance presented by Watertown Children’s Theatre

A den of misfit pirates, characters searching for adventure, confusion on the high seas? Join WCT as they bring to life W.S. Gilbert and Sir Arthur Sullivan’s The Pirates of Penzance. A cast of K-9th graders including Newton’s own Nisha Jha, Henry McPherson, and Jacob Resnick will sing, dance and act their way through this classic, comic operetta! Dress as your favorite Gilbert and Sullivan character for the Saturday 7:00 pm performance and be entered to win a prize!

Job Opening

Centre Street Food Pantry is looking for a special someone who would like to have a part-time position as Pantry Manager. The current Executive Director will split up the duties with this energetic, detail-oriented Pantry Manager who will:

  • Be responsible for weekly operation of the pantry
  • Organize and schedule volunteers
  • Manage inventory, deliveries, and pick-ups
  • Work closely with the Executive Director and the Board of Directors
  • Feel as great about the work as they all do

The Centre Street Food Pantry is a 501(c)(3) organization which opened its doors in January of 2011. If you are interested, or know someone who might be please email centrestfoodpantry@gmail.com.

Volunteers sought

Newton at Home, a grassroots organization that provides practical services and social opportunities to enable Newton seniors to lead active, connected lives as they grow older, is seeking volunteers with experience in development and/or marketing to help the organization diversify its revenue. Building on the organization’s success raising money from individual donors and in-kind contributions from local businesses, we are seeking volunteers who would be interested in:

  1. Developing and helping to implant a plan for business sponsorships;
  2.  Researching and implementing ideas for one or more fundraising events;
  3.  Write fundraising letters and collateral.

This is a great opportunity to meet and work with a dedicated and talented group of community leaders while making a difference in the lives of our members. See Alastair Moock and help a Nursery School

Weekday Nursery School in Newton Highlands invites you to be part of their spring fundraising event featuring 2014 Grammy Nominee, Alastair Moock! This event will take place from 3:00 – 4:00 pm on March 30th in the Auditorium of the Newton Highlands Congregational Church located at 54 Lincoln Street, Newton Highlands.

The Boston Herald says “Singer Alastair Moock’s live show is half Appalachian hootenanny, half honky-tonk jam session. It’s totally kid-friendly…[with] an indie sensibility hip parents dig.” Alastair Moock and Friends’ live shows are rowdy, rootsy, singin’ and dancin’ fun for the whole family!
