Walnut Street in Newtonville will be closed to traffic and transformed into a lively street fair. With two sound stages, a Roaming Railroad for kiddie rides, 100 craft booths and informational stands, an Open House at the Norumbega Fraternity Lodge of Masons featuring a bounce house and carnival games and fun activities for kids, there is something for everyone in the family to enjoy.
The Senior Center Sound Stage features a talented line-up of jazz musicians, sponsored by New England Jazz Productions. The Austin Street Sound Stage will also delight the crowds with an afternoon of performances by local dance studios, martial arts demonstrations and local young musicians. Bring the whole family to the Seashore Trolley Museum for the 16th Annual Pumpkin Patch Trolley! Hop aboard a vintage streetcar to the Pumpkin Patch, find your favorite pumpkin and decorate it, and win some prizes playing games at the fall carnival. Once you’ve scored the prizes you’re after, finish up your streetcar ride and then enjoy roaming the Museum grounds. A Columbus Day school vacation basketball clinic for children in grades K-5 will be held on October 13th from 9:00 am-3:00 pm at the Leventhal-Sidman Jewish Community Center, 333 Nahanton Street, Newton. Children will develop dribbling, passing and shooting skills and will engage in games with children of similar age and ability. Program is led by youth recreation specialist Peter Sylvester. VOICES BOSTON (formerly PALS Children’s Chorus) is currently holding auditions for its 25th season! Child Passenger Safety Week is September 14th – 20th and September 20th is National Seat Check Saturday. In Honor of this day the Car Seat Technicians from the Newton Police Department will be performing installations and inspections for all parents, grandparents etc., who would like their child carseat inspected.
There is no fee and there will also be a handful of free carseats available for families in need. The Installations and Inspections will be performed on Saturday from 8:00 am -11:00 am at the War Memorial Drive located at Newton’s City Hall.
