Newton Reads: On the Same Page
Please join us this October for Newton Reads, started by teens, for the entire community! The goal of Newton Reads is to promote good mental health through community connection, shared information and discussion. Our Community-wide Read is The Beginning of Everything by Robyn Schneider.

Wednesday, October 15, 7:00 pm, Newton Reads Ice Cream Kick-Off:
Please join us as we celebrate the kick-off of Newton Reads: On the Same Page! Enjoy ice cream generously donated by J.P. Licks, listen to music, and talk about the book! Open to all ages.

Saturday, October 18, 7:00 pm, Meet Author Robyn Schneider:
Please join us for a special author talk and signing by Newton Reads author, Robyn Schneider. Robyn will be flying in from California to discuss her book, The Beginning of Everything, followed by a Q&A and signing with books provided by New England Mobile Book Fair. Open to all ages. Please note, seating is limited and is provided on a first come, first served basis. Doors open at 6:15 pm.

Tuesday, October 21, 3:30 pm, Geocaching & Scavenger Hunt:
Ezra and Cassidy go geocaching in our Newton Reads book, The Beginning of Everything. There are many caches in our area. Join us to learn about geocaching, participate in a scavenger hunt and a search for local caches – including the Newton Free Library’s. Open to ages 10 and up. Thurs., October 23, 6:00 pm: Great Gatsby Movie Screening & 1920’s Era Costume Party: References are made to Fitzgerald’s classic novel, The Great Gatsby, throughout The Beginning of Everything. Join us for a special Newton Reads event where we’ll be screening the 2013 film starring Leonardo DiCaprio that runs 142 min. and is rated PG-13. All are invited to dress up in 1920’s garb or use one of our costume props in our photo-booth. Food will be provided. Open to ages 13 and up.

Monday, October 27, 7:00 pm: Success Under Stress:
Join Nanci Ginty Butler, LICSW, Assistant Director, School and Community Services at Riverside Community Care and Heather Byrns, LMHC – Clinical Supervisor MSPP (Massachusetts School of Professional Psychology) INTERFACE Referral Service for this discussion about how our perceptions of stress affect our health. We’ll also discuss the topic of stress in The Beginning of Everything. Open to teens and adults.

Thursday, October 30, 7:00 pm, Newton Reads Book Discussion:
Please join us for an intergenerational discussion of the Newton Reads book, The Beginning of Everything by Robyn Schneider. Star athlete and prom king Ezra Faulkner’s life is irreparably transformed by a tragic accident and the arrival of eccentric new girl Cassidy Thorpe. We believe that community connection, shared information, and discussion are the keys to promoting good mental health. Join us in this cooperative dialogue to be led by Newton teens on the Youth Commission.
