Register for 1-mile Heartbreak Hill Road Race (ages 8-90)

Registration is now open for Newton’s 20th annual Heartbreak Hill Road Race. This one-mile race on historic Heartbreak Hill takes place Sunday, April 15, beginning at 3PM at Newton City Hall.

The race is open to runners and walkers ages 8-90 (new lower age this year). The first 500 runners registered get a FREE t-shirt and a ticket to the pizza/pasta party on Saturday, 4/14.  Race details and registration information is at the Newton Community Pride website.

Free Running Clinic for Kids Running in Heartbreak Hill Race

Kids ages 8 to 18  running in the 20th anniversary Newton Heartbreak Hill Road Race on April 15  are invited to the John M. Barry Boys & Girls Club (675 Watertown St., Newtonville) on Sunday, March 25th at  2:30 PM for a free running clinic.

Rick Muhr, a twelve time Boston Marathon qualifier and experienced coach who has trained thousands of runners throughout the world will host the clinic. He’ll teach kids proper running technique and help them prepare for the Heartbreak Hill Road Race.

Preregistration is not required for the clinic, which will last approximately 90 minutes.  Families are welcome and participants should wear proper clothing and footwear for athletic activity.

Open House for Highlands After School Program, March 27

The Newton Highlands After-School Program, just for middle school children is hosting an Open House for interested families on Tuesday, March 27 from 5:30-6:30 P.M. at Brigham House, 20 Hartford Street, Newton Highlands. This is a terrific opportunity for parents to learn more about the program as they plan for the next school year. Mandatory Track Information Meeting – Wednesday 3/21

We are having our track information meeting on Wednesday 3/21 after school.  8th graders should report to room 212 (Ms. Summa), 7th graders should report to room 210 (Ms. Rice) and 6th graders should report to room 102 (Mr. Smalley’s room to meet with Ms. Hall.)  This meeting is mandatory for anyone interested in running this year.

Join Brookline Music School for a master class featuring the expertise of Jazz vocalist Sunny Wilkinson!

Four to five class performers will perform about 20-25 minutes each. Performers will be comprised of two students from Brookline Music School, two students from Berk…lee College of Music, and one student from Brookline High School or the community at large.

Sunny will coach vocal students regarding style and vocal technique.

Drive a Senior–Make a Friend!

Newton at Home, a member organization dedicated to helping Newton seniors age in their own homes, is looking for volunteers who can give rides to seniors.  Make a new friend while helping someone get to a doctor’s appointment, the supermarket, a social event or the airport.  Volunteer as much as you can at your convenience, and know that you have made a difference in a Newton senior’s life. Understanding Temperament – Getting to Really Know Your Own Child
